A Family of House Wren

Summer is here and you can hear its arrival as birds wake you in the morning, singing their morning rounds and crickets chirping their delicate music. Summer also ends the the mating season you can always look out the window and see birds collecting nesting material to build their nests or a mother and father hurriedly catching food for their hungry babies. This year in my backyard a family of house wrens decided to build a nest in a bluebird box I put up last year.

The bluebird box.

6 baby house wren inside the bluebird box. You can see that their eyes are still closed.

Top and bottom: Mother wren with food to feed her babies.

UPDATE: 6/23/13

All the chicks are doing great! Last time when I checked on them I only saw 6, this time I noticed that there were 5. In a few days they should be out of the nest.

They have finally opened their eyes!

Top and bottom: As you can see baby wren are tiny! They are about the length of your thumb.

UPDATE: 6/30/13

The wren fledglings finally flew out the nest! Though I wish I had seen them fly out, I'm glad that they survived their nest days and have now graduated to the vast real world.
